Khelo India School Games:
Khelo India School Games, which are a part of the Khelo India programme, are being held from 31st January to 8th February, 2018 in New Delhi. Under-17 athletes have been invited to participate across 16 disciplines.
On 31 January 2018 Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared open the inaugural Khelo India School Games at the opening ceremony based on Guru Shishya tradition held at Indira Gandhi Arena.
Khelo India School Games is a part of the revamped National Programme for development of sports, Khelo India. It aims at strengthening the ecosystem by promoting the twin objectives of mass participation and promotion of excellence in sports.
Khelo India School Games (KISG), meaning Play India School Games, held annually beginning from 31 January 2018, are the national level multidisciplinary grassroot games in India for the under-17 years school kids. Every year best 1000 kids will be given an annual scholarship of INR 500,000 for 8 years to prepare them for the international sporting events in 16 disciplines viz Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Football, Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Shooting, Swimming, Volleyball, Weightlifting & Wrestling.
The Training of Trainers (TOT) Programme will be held in December 2018- January 2019 in the first phase. Here total of 160 trainers will be trained in 4 batches of 40 each in December-January period. This TOT Programme will be carried out semi- annually or quarterly to include all the interested teachers/principals/vice-principals/physical education trainers.
To identify the talent at grassroot level, each sports has a dedicated talent hunt committee, who will identify top 2 sportsperson for each sports and they will be given an annual scholarship of INR598,000 for 8 years.
The plan is to select 1,000 under-17 children each year for the next five years and provide scholarships of R5 lakh each to train them to become potential winners at the international level. “While 17 years is a pretty late age to start, gradually we will bring down the age for talent scouting to 14, or may be 12,” said Rathore.
Khelo India Youth Games:-
Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore on Sunday launched the jersey for the second edition of Khelo India, rechristened as Khelo India Youth Games, which will kick-start from January 9-20 in Pune.
